Members of the Salix team observed wood frog breeding near Sundre. AB. Wood frogs – the only frog able to live north of the Artic circle by adapting to the cold climate and freezing over winter. This unique species produces a special antifreeze substance that prevents ice from freezing within their cells, which would be deadly. They also play an important role in the food chain feeding on many insects and are a food source for skunks, coyotes, foxes and birds.
